Single-origin coffee from Burundi
This delightful single origin coffee comes to us from the landlocked East African country of Burundi. The majority of coffee from Burundi is sourced from microlots where, on average, each farmer owns less than one hectare (< 2.5 acres) of land. Farmers harvest their coffee by picking ripe cherries from the coffee plant and delivering them to centralized depulping and washing stations to be processed.
This coffee is sourced from Masha, one of the most well known washing stations in the Kayanza province of northern Burundi. The Masha washing station collects cherries from over 2,500 local coffee farmers spread over the 12 neighboring collines, or villages. During the harvest season, Masha processes more than 400 tons of coffee. This station is known for its coffees that exhibit complex fruit profiles, and this one is no exception. We’ve been enjoying it’s medium body with notes of coconut and smooth, tea-like sweetness.
